LITERARY LEGENDS BY SEA AND BY LAND

Land Tour Tentative Itinerary

May 23 – 29, 2014

MAY 23 – Southampton – Stonehenge - Oxford – Stratford-Upon-Avon (3 nights)

We will be met by our guide as we disembark the Queen Mary II at Southampton. The land part of our Literary Legends Tour begins as we board our motor coach. En route to Stratford-upon-Avon, we first stop at Stonehenge, with its mysterious pre-historic rock formation. Our second stop is in the historical city of Oxford. Here we visit the famous Christ Church College, the essential place to visit in Oxford. Two of its famous landmarks, Tom Tower, by Christopher Wren, and Oxford’s Cathedral spire, contribute to the city’s celebrated skyline. When we reach Stratford-upon-Avon we will have our welcome dinner, before we proceed to the Royal Shakespeare Company for our first theatre performance. Overnight in Stratford (Holiday Inn) D

MAY 24 – Stratford

Today our guide will take us to famous Stratford sights - Holy Trinity Church, Anne Hathaway's Cottage and Shakespeare's birthplace. The afternoon and evening is free. Overnight in Stratford (Holiday Inn) B

MAY 25 – Stratford

Today our guide will introduce us to two additional Shakespeare landmarks - Hall's Croft, the home of Shakespeare's daughter and her physician husband, and Nash's House & New Place. We will see the site of Shakespeare’s last home, where he died in 1616. Later today we enjoy our second theatre performance at the RSC centre. Overnight in Stratford (Holiday Inn) B

MAY 26 – Stratford – Upon – Avon – Bladon – London (3 nights)

Accompanied by our guide, we depart from Stratford and drive through the Cotswolds, that quintessential English countryside, recognized for its outstanding natural beauty – and architecture to complement it. We will have lunch en route, before we continue to London, with a brief stop at Bladon, to visit Churchill's grave. When we reach London we check in at our hotel. Our evening is free. Overnight in London (Doubletree Westminster) B-L

MAY 27 – London

Our local London guide will take us on a panoramic sightseeing tour by motor coach and on foot, passing major sights of the city, and with visits to the Globe Theatre, Buckingham Palace, and the London Eye. Our afternoon is at leisure and this evening we have our third and final theatre performance, with return transfers. Overnight in London (Doubletree Westminster) B

MAY 28 – London at leisure – Farewell Dinner

Enjoy a full day in London, to do as you please. Maybe visit Tower or any number of other sights the city has to offer. Or visit one of London’s many world-class museums and galleries, or go shopping, maybe at Harrod’s. Whatever you choose to do, getting around will be easy with the one-day London Travel Card you will be provided.

Just plan to be back in time for our Farewell Dinner in the evening, to celebrate our journey and share our stories. Overnight in London (Doubletree Westminster) B-D
