"WOMEN, VIOLENCE, AND THE PROSPECTS OF SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION IN COLOMBIA"
This presentation will expose the deadliest aspects of Colombia’s politico-economic model today under President Santos’ administration by revealing the continuities in human rights violations and paramilitary activity in what is considered to be a “post-conflict” era. Within this context, the presentation will look at the different roles of women in the armed conflict and focus on the impacts of the various forms of politically motivated violence on the civic and political activities of female social movement leaders, human rights defenders, activists, and educators.
