CFUW Mississauga Wine Tasting Fundraiser
of March 21, 2012
A sparkling event in every sense of the word, the Wine Tasting sparkled in the early evening with sunbeams over Lake Ontario. The wine glasses twinkled under the chandeliers at Edgemere, truly a grand house. Some 60 guests mingled and enjoyed the selection of wines and food pairings, thrilled with the beautiful setting for the event. Classical flautists played in one of the the great rooms. CFUW Mississauga’s volunteer helpers were on hand to make everything run smoothly and with smiles.
.The formal wine tasting was run by Rogers & Co., private stock wine importers who introduced wines from Austria, France, Australia and California. Our Cordon Bleu chef presented hors d’oeuvres to accompany each wine, treats such as seared duck breast with sour cherry compote on a tiny wild rice pancake and prosciutto-wrapped figs with Gorgonzola. The evening was a taste sensation
As a result of an early sell- out of the tickets and the generosity of those who snapped up the items at the silent auction, the event was also a great success financially raising more than $5000 towards the publication of our book - Extraordinary Lives: Inspiring Women of Peel. A large poster on display in the silent auction room displayed images of all 36 women profiled in the book. It was intriguing to see four of them posing beside the poster. Eight of our featured women had purchased tickets for themselves and guests. Profits from the book sales later this year will go to CFUW’s National Scholarship Trust for post-graduate scholarships for outstanding Canadian women.
