Guest Speaker: Stephen Dasko
“A vibrant community is home to a better life.” So believes Stephen Dasko, a Ward 1 resident - from birth to today. Through his earliest days when Port Credit Arena was hockey’s home ice - to his work as a young researcher on Parliament Hill – to being Chief of Staff for a Provincial MPP, Stephen has brought insight and energy to making better relationships and better communities.
As witness to decades of change in Ward 1, he knows residents have a common question – as the landscape evolves in Mississauga’s South East corner, are the biggest changes yet to come? Indeed they are – and they are happening now.

Guest Speaker: Ron Posno
Guest Speaker: Ron Posno
A lifelong planner, Ron Posno, who lives in London, Ont., did everything possible to manage the terms of his own exit. He worked with his lawyer to change his living will and assigned power of attorney to his wife, who supports his wishes. He laid out eight clear conditions, in writing, under which he no longer wishes to live, all of which have to do with losing mental capacity. But here, Posno knows he is caught in a paradox: Once any of the conditions under which he wishes to die becomes reality, he will no longer be able to consent legally to an assisted death. For this reason, Posno believes Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying law is a “failure by design,” and he’s on a mission to change it.

Guest Speaker: Katherine Ashenburg
Guest Speaker: Katherine Ashenburg
In light of our dealing with the Covid pandemic, it is timely to welcome Katherine Ashenburg. She will be presenting a history as outlined in her book The Dirt on Clean. The apparently routine task of taking up soap and water (or not) is Katherine Ashenburg's starting point for a unique history of private life. Every age and culture was convinced that their version of cleanliness was the correct one, from the Roman who spent a few hours a day soaking in public baths of various temperatures to the 17th-century Frenchman who never touched water and believed he cleaned himself by changing into a fresh linen shirt. Our own over-deodorized world — where germophobes shake hands with their elbows and where sales of hand sanitizers, wipes and sprays are skyrocketing — is as extreme, and potentially unhealthy, as the 17th century. And, as with every other age, our definition of "clean" says much about us. Filled with amusing anecdotes and unexpected insights into our notions of privacy, health, individuality, religion and sexuality, The Dirt on Clean takes us on a journey that is by turns intriguing, startling, humorous — and not always for the squeamish. Katherine has published several books:
All the Dirt: A History of Getting Clean, a children’s book
The Mourner’s Dance – What we do when people die
Going to Town – Architectural walking tours of Southern Ontario
Sophie and Cecilia - A novel
