DECEMBER CHARITY COLLECTION:   THE SHOEBOX PROJECT - 2013
Results of our December 2013 Project On Monday December 9, 2013, nine members of the Issues Group, worked together to fill boxes with chocolate, warm gloves, mitts or scarves and a wide variety of toiletries. Later that day, 41 boxes were delivered. The local representative of the Shoebox Project thanked our club saying, "You are indeed brightening Christmas for many women. The spirit of generosity in our community is nothing short of amazing."
To date a total of 760 boxes have been collected from the Mississauga community making it possible to expand distribution to neighbouring shelters. Thank you to all our members who so generously donated to both the Shoebox Project and Armagh house. The group of volunteers worked very hard to assemble and deliver almost double the number of boxes they anticipated! It’s hard for many of us to even imagine what it must be like to be homeless or living in a shelter, but the gift boxes and the financial donations will be a welcome reminder to those in these situations that someone does care. |
A Note from the Organizers Many thanks to each and every one of you who has contributed to the success of the Shoebox Project for Women in Shelters.
Never in our wildest dreams did we think that our original goal of collecting 250 shoeboxes would be more than tripled. Your generosity and compassion have made this happen. We have delivered 785 shoeboxes to 9 shelters and 4 outreach programs. Because of you Christmas will be brighter for many women. We look forward to your continued support next year. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and all the best in 2014. Jacqueline Findlay & Veronica Marsden Coordinators - Mississauga, Brampton, Orangeville [email protected] |
